Windy Day on the Town Square
The September/October 2006 issue of Fons & Porter's Love of Quilting included the pattern for Flavin Glover's quilt Tuscan Village. My Mini-Maker group decided to make this one of their challenges for the spring. The village houses and sky are all made from log cabin blocks, a technique that Ms. Glover specializes in. This quilt was designed 20 years after Glover's quilt Row Houses which was selected as one of the 100 Best American Quilts of the 20th Century.
My idea for this quilt was to choose novelty fabric for each of the shops to represent what might be sold or go on in each building. Look for my version of the Bass Pro Shop, Big Tex's Store, City Hall, Janene's Salon, Pet Boutique, REI, and Starbucks. The quilt is 25" x 19" and was completed in 2007. It is machine quilted using my Bernina Stitch Regulator to create what I hope appears to be a storm a comin'.
