Lorraine's Garden

R3-2
Broderie Perse Flower

Lorraine Hofmann is the one who suggested we form a group of Calico Gardeners. She is stayed true to most the original block designs but decided to make four inch flower blocks on a black background. She hand appliquéd her blocks. She stopped at twelve blocks and has put those together with the nine-patches. At some point in the future she will make a decision on finishing the quilt. The block on the right is a good example of broderie perse. This is a method of cutting around a motif such as a flower, a leaf, or some such design printed on a fabric and sewing it to another fabric. The original quilt has many examples of this.

See more of Lorraine's blocks on her block chart page.
