Avery's Quilt

Avery's Quilt
Rainbow sherbet colors with Butterflies

When you make a Baby Turning Six quilt you must start with a fun focus fabric. In this case I chose the butterfly fabric. Then you search for at least 5 more fabrics to go with that fabric but have different intensities and patterns.

These are small quilts and don't require an intense amount of quilting because you want the quilt to be soft enough to wrap the baby in. On this quilt I quilted butterflies in the peach blocks. On the teal and purple blocks I simply used the swirls as my quilting guide. On the stripe I used a built in machine decorative stitch to highlight the horizontal lines. I meandered around the butterflies to make them pop.

For Avery's stats I first printed the information on printer paper using the Pegsanna font from Hallmark. It is a script font that quilts nicely. Then I traced the words onto Golden Threads Quilting Paper. This paper can be pinned to your quilt as a guide for your quilting and then easily torn away when you are finished. I like to include a state map with city of birth starred on one of the blocks.
