Stepping Out
This batik quilt started out as two different blocks of the month. Then I saw McCall's Quilting's Stairway to Cat Heaven pattern. I decided to make the quilt a bit smaller and substituted my six blocks for some of the nine patches. I believe the nine-patch area is enhanced by the change, and it is an interesting way to display the various blocks. On this smaller quilt I only included three kitties and couldn't really see the crescent moon as part of the picture. The original was a night scene. Mine is a daytime play time quilt. I believe this was my first attempt at allowing the appliqué to flow across the border.
I made this 28" square quilt for my sister Leslie Curran in October of 2007. The cats were hand appliquéd, the blocks are mostly machine pieced, and it is finished with machine quilting.
